Tambuwal Felicitates IBB at 84, Hails His Enduring Legacy

Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR, on the occasion of his 84th birthday.

In a goodwill message shared on his official X handle, Senator Tambuwal described General Babangida as a visionary leader whose dedication to national unity and institution building has left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s history.

According to him, Babangida’s years in service were defined by bold reforms and landmark initiatives that continue to shape the nation’s trajectory. He recalled the actualisation of Abuja as the Federal Capital, a project he described as a powerful symbol of unity and foresight.

Tambuwal also highlighted some of the enduring institutions established during the Babangida administration, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), the Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM), the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the National Commission for Nomadic Education, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), as well as the reorganisation of the National Security Organisation, which led to the emergence of the SSS/DSS, NIA and DIA. Others include the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the National Population Commission (NPC), the Directorate for Food, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI), the Mass Mobilisation for Self Reliance, Social Justice and Economic Recovery (MAMSER), the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and the Technical Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation (TCPC), among others.

“At 84, General Babangida stands as a repository of wisdom, resilience and statesmanship. His lifelong commitment to peace, stability, national development and institution building remains a source of enduring inspiration to generations of leaders,” the Senator noted.

Tambuwal, on behalf of his family, prayed for the continued good health, peace of mind and fulfilment of the elder statesman, while wishing him many more years of divine guidance and blessings.
