Lagos-Based Educator Seeks Asylum in Ireland Over Threats Linked to Sexual Orientation

A 36-years old Lagos, Nigerian born female bisexual ‘Educator’ Faith Ovie is seeking for an asylum in Dublin Ireland on the grounds that her life is in danger for being bisexual this, newspaper can report on good authority.

Faith, who’s from a Christian home and an indigene of Delta State last lived in Oke-ira nla, Addo Road, Lagos State, travelled to Dublin last in February, 2025. Following threats of reporting her gender orientation to higher authorities for persecution to her life by her family members both in the area she lived and in her state of origin.

The educator who worked in a prominent school of learning at Lekki, Lagos State before she left the country to apply for Dublin to the Ireland Home Office where she revealed her story.

Trouble started for Faith when she lost her parents at a very tender age and her family discovered, while growing up, that she was attracted to both genders but particularly to her (female) gender. Her mother’s close friend in Lagos soon found out she was having a relationship with her daughter (name with held) whom she was caught with having an affair.

In her words, “My mother’s friend caught us, wept and could not stand my sight over what she termed an abomination since we’re from a devoted christian background and then, my mother’s friend knew some of my family members in Lagos and in Delta State, who she contacted to report me of the act with her daughter.

After my secondary level, I met my spouse(male) who also knew about my gender orientation, while he faced embarrassment from his friends and family simply because, he’s with me but he never gave up on me, instead he, actually supported and encouraged me in this trying period. Then, while dating, I later became pregnant of my first child with him in 2010. I was so passionate about education, so I later decided to complete my tertiary level in education at Delta State University and after the completion of my educational degree, I decided to relocate back to Oke-ira nla Addo, Lagos State to live with my spouse (male) in that community. This was because news had spread so fast about my affair with my friend.

While living with my partner, I met Ifeoma, in 2023 who’s actually a friend, she got attracted to me and we met on one occasion in our area. We got talking and eventually fell for each other. We worked out plans on how we would be meeting in her place inorder for my spouse not to find out. Which my spouse later did found out but encouraged me to stop the act but one of Ifeoma’s neighbour saw us in a rather compromised position and decided to monitor us closely. She saw through and She immediately reported to her strict husband who later reported the act to the area community head.

After a severe beating of Ifeoma, she confessed to them our deeds. And that was where things took a scary dimension for me. The community heads and it’s members of the area started threatening my life with the argument that I had broken Nigeria laws, teachings and doctrines of the land and deserved to die/persecution. They also, threatened my spouse to release me to them and all these threats lasted all through 2023 to early 2025. So I stopped seeing her since I was traumatized with the threats. So I became pregnant of my second child in the late period of 2025, but the threats continued from the community head and it’s members.

At this point, I quickly applied for a visa to travel to United Kingdom and arrived in the UK in late January, 2025 as a means to get to the Ireland Dublin just to save my unborn child’s life and mine from the persecution of authorities in my country.

“Thankfully, they couldn’t get me. I successfully travelled to Dublin where I pray to secure international protection of my stay and life. I have submitted my case to the concerned authorities here in Dublin hoping to get a fair response, because in Dublin, my unborn child and I feels safe and protected from harm.
Thank you.
