How Tinubu Blackmailed Governor Adeleke into Joining APC: A Ruthless Power Grab Unfolds

What is playing out in Osun State is not politics—it is blackmail of the highest order, a desperate and dictatorial move by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to force Governor Ademola Adeleke into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to credible and well-placed sources, Governor Adeleke is being strong-armed into dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not out of conviction, but under duress—pressured by his elder brother and business mogul, Deji Adeleke, who himself is under immense political siege from the presidency.
In a brazen act of political intimidation, President Tinubu reportedly summoned Deji Adeleke to Aso Rock and delivered a chilling message: “Even if Ademola wins re-election next year, he will not be declared winner unless he defects to the APC.” That is not democracy. That is tyranny wrapped in the garments of desperation.
This coercion has now caused deep cracks within the Adeleke family. The family matriarch, Prophetess Modupeola Adeleke, has stood firm against the move, warning that the forced defection could spell doom. She is said to have received a vision foretelling the Governor’s potential assassination should he give in to the pressure and cross over to the APC.
This is not mere paranoia. The family has already suffered one political casualty—Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the first civilian governor of Osun State, who died under mysterious circumstances shortly after defecting to the APC in 2017. That memory still lingers.
President Tinubu is reported to have confessed in private that he has lost significant northern support and is now scrambling to secure the South by any means necessary. His fear of a united opposition and a credible Southern bloc outside his control has turned him into a political bulldozer, willing to crush anyone in his path.

Even Deji Adeleke’s olive branch—offering to support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election while allowing his brother remain in PDP—was rejected outright. Tinubu reportedly replied: “That’s a risk too much to take.”
And it doesn’t stop there. Tinubu, sources say, swore to politically “destroy” his former ally and now adversary, Rauf Aregbesola, who currently serves as national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition platform preparing to challenge Tinubu’s continued hold on power in 2027.
As we speak, Governor Adeleke is drawing up a list of loyal aides to decamp with him—a tragic sign that the threats and blackmail may be yielding their intended result.
The Adeleke family is dismayed. The Osun PDP is in turmoil. And Nigeria watches once again as the rule of law is trampled under the iron heel of authoritarian ambition.
This is not just a political maneuver—it is a slow, calculated asphyxiation of democracy.
And the world must take notice.
