Today Is Saddest In My Political Career, Says Buhari’s Aide As FFK Joins APC

Babafemi Ojudu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, is dissatisfied after Femi Fani-Kayode joined the All Progressives Congress.

Thursday, he said, was the saddest day of his political career.

Hours after FFK visited his boss at Aso Rock and defected to the ruling party, he posted the remark on Facebook.

Ojudu wrote on Facebook, “This is the saddest day of my political career.”

Following that, Ojudu reiterated FFK’s previous promise that he would never join APC, saying, “I prefer to die than join APC.”

Before joining the APC, Fani-Kayode was a significant opposition figure in the country and served as a spokesperson for his previous party’s presidential campaign.

Buhari formally accepted Fani-Kayode, who recently switched from the PDP to the APC, on Thursday.

Mr Mai-Mala Buni, the APC Caretaker Chairman and Governor of Yobe, as well as Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, escorted Kayode into the President’s office.

After Kayode’s presentation, Buni described the President as saying that Kayode’s defection to the APC was a “good development,” and that the president was “pleased” that the former minister had joined the party.

He said, “We are here to present our newest member of the party, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode to the President and leader of the party.

“He is the newest member of APC and we just received him in appreciation and understanding of the President’s vision and magnanimity.

“The President received him very well. The President is a leader who shares his vision and looks toward greater Nigeria, so he received him very well and commended his courage.”

Fani-Kayode, who spoke to the reporters as well, said he believed it was time for him to join hands with President Buhari in bringing Nigeria ahead.

He said, “The point is that I felt it was time to do the right thing, to put Nigeria first and appreciate the efforts that have been made, particularly in the last couple of years in terms of security; fighting insurgency and terrorism.

“It is not always negative and when the time is right, we change direction to join forces and join hands to move the country forward.

“Doing this doesn’t mean we are enemies to anybody. Even if we are in another party, the PDP or any other party or group, we can still work together across party, regional, ethnic or religious lines,” he said.
