The Alleged Leaked Conversation Involving Chief Kensington Adebutu and Otunba Gbenga Daniel Should Not Distract Ogun People from the Real Issues

Political theatrics should not be allowed to steal the attention of Ogun State when the real concerns of the people require urgent and serious attention.

A supposed leaked conversation allegedly between Chief Kensington Adebutu and Otunba Gbenga Daniel has been trending on social media platforms and in political circles in recent days. The personalities involved and the timing of the controversy mean that it is no surprise that the issue has become a matter of public interest. But beyond the sensational headlines, the emotional reactions and the political interpretations, the people of Ogun State must ask themselves a more important question: Does this controversy address the real challenges facing our people?

Will it generate employment for the jobless youth? Will it improve our highways and infrastructure? Will it improve the delivery of health care, bolster education, empower small businesses or attract investment that will improve the lives of ordinary people? The answer is simple. Ogun State needs a political discourse that is not distracted and addresses the real issues affecting its people.

Politics is a battle of ideas. It’s a chance for those seeking public trust to put forward their vision, outline their programmes, and show they can deliver solutions. Political seasons are often accompanied by efforts to distract from substantive issues by creating confusion among the electorate through controversies, accusations and
narratives.

Ogun State people are not interested in political drama. They want leadership that works. They want a government that understands the realities that families, traders, farmers, artisans, civil servants, students and business owners are facing. They seek leaders who will translate Ogun’s vast economic potential into tangible opportunities
and better living standards.

The so-called leaked conversation making rounds, therefore should not be a substitute to serious discussions about the future of Ogun State. Any allegation against public figures must be appropriately examined, verified and subjected to due process. At a time when technology has made it easier than ever to manipulate, edit or present information out of context, responsible citizens should be guided by facts and evidence, not emotion and social media trends.

More importantly, people should be wary of those who intentionally weaponise misinformation for political purposes. It is too bad that in every political season there are those who would rather not present ideas or solutions, but rather peddle false narratives, play to public sentiment and create distractions in a desperate
attempt to diminish opponents they view as a threat.

These merchants of negativity thrive on controversy because they lack the courage and the competence to participate in a real contest of ideas and achievements. They depend on rumours, distorted narratives and sensational claims because they know that falsehood travels fast in the digital age. They mistake noise for influence, propaganda for popularity, and forget that people are becoming more discerning and capable of telling the difference between truth and political theatrics.

No amount of malicious rumours, co-ordinated attacks or campaigns of negativity can erase years of commitment, public service and genuine efforts to improve the lives of our citizens. Those who try to gain political relevance by pulling others down must understand that integrity, competence and service will always be stronger than deception and bitterness. It is not political gossip that should be on the lips of every resident of Ogun State but the urgent need for purposeful leadership.

The state is at a crossroads in its development journey. Ogun is one of the most economically strategic states in Nigeria and possesses tremendous advantages including an industrial base, proximity to Lagos, agricultural resources, an educated population and entrepreneurial energy. But these benefits will only lead to prosperity if they are paired with visionary leadership that knows how to create opportunities and produce measurable results.

The people deserve leaders who will address unemployment among the youth, improve infrastructure, encourage small and medium scale enterprises, improve health services, invest in education and create an enabling environment for
businesses and industries to thrive.

These are the discussions that should be fuelling political engagement. For Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), it is all about service, development and the future of Ogun State.

Senator Yayi’s political career has been centred on representation, legislative activism and interventions for the improvement of the wellbeing of the citizens. His supporters argue that public office should be judged by impact, accessibility and the ability to deliver tangible benefits to the people; not by the volume of controversy generated during political contests.

Anyone who wants to govern the state must be ready to show their record and their plans to the electorate. Leadership is not about dominating the social media conversation or making the most noise on politics. Leadership is earned through being competent, credible and experienced and really understanding the needs of the
people.

The key questions for the people of Ogun State will be:
• Who has demonstrated the capacity to enhance lives?
• Who is aware of the problems of ordinary citizens?
• Who has the vision and experience to lead the state forward?
• Who can unite the people and give them a sense of purpose?

These are the questions that should determine the future of Ogun State and not the controversies over alleged recordings whose authenticity and context remain a subject of public debate.

“Ogun State does not need politics of distraction and division. It’s begging for leadership that can build bridges, attract investment, create opportunity and offer hope to the next generations. Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) is still on the issues that matter to the people.

“He will not be distracted by controversies that do not advance the interest of the people of Ogun. His commitment remains to build a prosperous, inclusive and better governed Ogun State. As the political season unfolds, the people deserve a debate centred on ideas, solutions, and service. They need leaders who will inspire confidence and
demonstrate the ability to deliver.

The future of Ogun State is too important to be decided on the basis of rumours, speculations or political theatrics. Its quality will be defined by the informed choice of its people and the quality of leadership they choose.
