Olowu to Alaafin: You and Ooni must work together towards development of Yoruba land

Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Makama Oyelude has called on Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade to work with Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi towards entrenching development and progress in Yoruba land.

Oba Oyelude made this call on Tuesday when he received Oba Owoade, who was on visits to Palaces, at his Palace in Owu-Kuta.

The monarch emphasized that unity between Ooni and Alaafin is pivotal towards the development of Yoruba race, urging the visiting monarch not to listen to gossip and side talks.

Oba Oyelude said, “This type of visit is an important avenue to pass important messages to the throne of Alaafin of Oyo. My message today is about unity.

“The public must continue to see the two of you (Ooni of Ife and Alaafin) as being united. This generation of Yoruba wants to see Alaafin and Ooni work together for the development of the Yoruba race. This is very important. You and Ooni are in a class of your own. You must avoid gossip.” Olowu said.

He urged the two leading traditional rulers to emulate how the Sultan of Sokoto and the Shehu of Borno relate between each other without acrimony.

Reacting, the Alaafin of Oyo commended the Olowu for the advice given, stating that he’s happy with the blunt discussion initiated at the Olowu’s Palace.

Oba Owoade promised said the visit is to bring all Yoruba monarchs together towards the unity of the race. He said he’s ready to work together with Ooni and other traditional rulers towards the development of Yoruba land.

“As said by Kabiesi Olowu, we are here to seek your support and unity towards the development and progress of Yoruba land. All of us must work together for it.”

He said he has reached out to Ooni and would have loved to visit him first but the Ooni is currently outside Nigeria, revealing that he’ll visit him when he comes back.

Alaafin said, “Ooni of Ife and I have no issues. I have reached out to and maybe I would have started my visits there but he’s currently out of Nigeria.”
