‘Moribund at Birth’: Pro-Tinubu Group Knocks Aregbesola’s Opposition Gambit

A strong loyalist of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chairman of the Yari Renaissance Movement for Tinubu 2027, Kabir Ali Danbaba, has sharply criticised former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, for leading a coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Danbaba, in a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, described Aregbesola’s recent remarks in Akure—where he revealed the ambition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to dislodge the APC from power—as “delusional,” “ungrateful,” and “an affront to history and loyalty.”

Aregbesola, now the National Secretary of the ADC, had urged opposition forces to unite under a single platform, stating that unity remains the only viable path to defeating President Tinubu in the 2027 polls. “Let us put personal interests aside and unite… With unity, we cannot be defeated,” Aregbesola said at a stakeholder meeting in Ondo State.

But Danbaba, in response, questioned the political credibility and moral standing of the former minister to lead any meaningful opposition, especially against a man he credited with Aregbesola’s political rise. He referenced Tinubu’s past support for Aregbesola—appointing him Commissioner for Works in Lagos, backing his governorship bid in Osun, and supporting his administration through legal and political hurdles—as examples of profound political generosity.

“To sit back with a few disgruntled elements and propound the impossible is the height of deceit by the ADC leadership,” Danbaba declared. “President Tinubu will not only return in 2027, he will be a major force in the emergence of his successor. The ADC, if it still exists by then, will merely watch helplessly.”

Danbaba accused Aregbesola of “repaying good with evil,” adding that even if Tinubu chooses to overlook the betrayal, “his eleda (divine guardian) will not.”

He concluded with a warning that any political movement built on envy and ingratitude will be doomed from inception. “This movement against your benefactor is moribund at birth,” Danbaba said. “You can continue to dream big, but posterity is marking you down for a deserving comeuppance. It’s only a matter of time.”
