Lekki shooting: ‘They say fake news but told more lies than Satan’ — Burna Boy taunts FG
Damini Ogulu, an Afrofusion singer better known as Burna Boy, has taunted the Nigerian government’s fight against misinformation, saying “they tell more lies than Satan”.
The 29-year-old musician, who has been vocal about the recent protests against police brutality, took to his Twitter page on Wednesday to pour out his annoyance over the conflicting reports that have trailed the shooting at Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
On October 20, the army had opened fire on unarmed youth who had stationed at the toll gate for nearly two weeks to protest against the now-disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS).
There have been conflicting reports on the actual casualties after the shooting which has continued to attract global condemnation.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, had said that the footage of the shooting shows the army was responsible for the incident.
This was after the army had denied any involvement in the incident, dismissing multiple reports as “fake news” via its Twitter handle.

In a follow-up tweet, the ‘Ye’ crooner also came to the defence of DJ Switch, a disc jockey, who had filmed the shooting and claimed that about 15 people died of gunshot wounds.
“DJ Switch did not make allegations. She streamed the shooting on Instagram Live,” he added.

In a recent video, the DJ, who had claimed that she received death threats over her involvement in the #EndSARS protest, told a Canadian parliament that she counted not less than seven persons shot.
Switch also recalled approaching one of the men in military uniform over the shooting and was told they were acting on “orders from above.”
