LASU Student Activist, Omomeewa Shot Dead, Union, Management React
A student activist at the Lagos State University (LASU), Yusuf Nurudeen, a.k.a. Omomeewa, was shot and killed.
Omomeewa, who married earlier this year, was shot and killed at the LASU U-turn after facing a disciplinary committee at the school.
He had been questioned by the school about alleged illicit possession of university documents, among other things.
The unionist graduated from the Faculty of Education’s Department of Educational Management in 2019. Educational Rights Campaign was founded by him (ERC).
In a statement, Badmus Uthman, the president of the LASU Students’ Union, and Olusola Kolawole, the Public Relations Officer, confirmed his death.
Nurudeen ran for President of the Students’ Union in the 29th LASUSU Election but lost, according to the couple, but he was diligent and never engaged in illicit activities.

Omomeewa and a member of the LASU staff, Waheed Majekodunmi, were robbed and shot around 10 p.m. on August 18, 2021, according to the report. The latter has been admitted to the hospital.
“The Union checked all the hospitals around including Police stations and it was there we were informed that Nurudeen is dead. His body is at Mainland hospital”, the statement read.
In a statement, LASU reported the deceased left campus about 8 p.m., long after the panel had discharged him around 2 p.m.
According to Ademola Adekoya, the Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, the news of Omomeewa’s death shocked the management.
Majekodunmi is the Senior Assistant Registrar, according to his testimony, and the attack happened outside the university on the Egbeda-Igando Road.
Omomeewa had yet to obtain his certificate, according to Adekoya, due to an ongoing disciplinary matter at the university.
According to the spokeswoman, the panel began meeting in 2019. The topic was postponed until 2020 owing to the COVID-19 epidemic.
On Wednesday, the committee asked the late activist, as well as other students with pending cases, to defend himself.
“Omomeewa was the first student attended to, and his case was concluded before 2pm. He ostensibly remained on the university campus until late in the evening during which time he met up with Mr. Waheed Majekodunmi.
“The duo were said to have hobnobbed at the University Senior Staff Club until past 8pm in the evening after which they left together through the Iba Gate of the University for their destinations.
“Unable to get vehicles at the school junction as it was late in the day, the duo were said to have trekked several metres away from the gate ostensibly in search of a vehicle.
“They were attacked by men of the underworld, dispossessed of their valuables and shot. The staff escaped with gunshot wounds and got helped by passersby to a nearby hospital. Omomeewa did not survive the attack”, the statement read.
LASU assured that the institution is working with security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
