Kidnappers Demand N60m Ransom To Release Abducted Maza-Kuka Worshippers In Niger

Kidnappers in Maza-Kuka hamlet, Mashegu local government area, Niger State, have demanded an N60 million ransom from the families of abducted worshippers.

Gunmen assaulted the Maza-Kuka village during morning prayers on Monday, killing 18 people and kidnapping a large number of others.

The abduction of 11 people, including the community’s Chief Imam, was confirmed by a source who requested anonymity.

According to the source, “They (kidnappers) called demanding N60 million as ransom before those kidnapped can regain their freedom.”

The source said the community is confused, worrying that the 10 worshippers kidnapped at Friday’s prayer alongside the Chief Imam were still in captivity.

The source said one woman was who is now deceased, was killed because she screamed and tried to run for her life when the attackers arrived.
