Ex-Italy Striker Questions Napoli €80m Transfer Fee Paid For Victor Osimhen

Bruno Giordano, a former Italy striker, has questioned Napoli about the €80 million transfer fee charged for Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian striker, in the summer of 2020.

The Naples-based club beat out many other top European clubs to sign the striker for a club-record fee of €70 million, which could increase to €80 million with add-ons.

He is the most expensive African footballer ever, according to the transfer fee.

Giordano, who scored 23 goals in 78 appearances for Napoli between 1985 and 1988, believes it is illogical for Osimhen to be more expensive than Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

“I’m not sure the Nigerian is worth that much. I know Haaland at Borussia costs less, but given the high expectations surrounding Victor, who is only 22 years old, it is reasonable that the square should challenge itself,” Giordano told spazionapoli.it

Despite his displeasure with the Nigerian’s price tag, the former Crotone boss says he likes him and the attributes he brings to the team. “He stands out from the rest of the Napoli strikers, and his development has been slowed this season by his several injuries.
