El-Rufai’s Loyalty to Tinubu Backfired, Lawyer Claims
President Muhammad Buhari, GCFR tried to save Elrufai, but Elrufai was so busy with his own philosophy that he didn’t understand his political leader.
When Buhari and Emefiele mischievously introduced the Naira redesignation policy, they did it with the understanding that Tinubu already had enough old currency to sponsor himself in the election.
So, they wanted to cripple the financial freedom Tinubu had.
Guess who mobilized other Governors to question that policy?
It was Elrufai, through the landmark case of Attorney General of Kaduna State & 15 Ors v. Attorney General of the Federation (2023) LPELR-60143.
When the former APC Chairman, Adamu Abdullahi, and Buhari wanted to play a fast one by using Ahmed Lawan as the APC consensus candidate, it was still this same Elrufai who mobilized other northern Governors to block that move.

Looking back today, it is difficult not to see the irony.
Buhari is no more, and Elrufai is now dancing to the same music whose stage he helped to set.
Perhaps if Buhari were still alive, he might have intervened.
But fate has decided otherwise. Now, Elrufai is left to keep dancing to the tune of the very music he helped compose.
