Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid Featured On Forbes Africa’s ‘100 Innovations, Inventions & Icons‘ List
Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Funke Akindele-Bello, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Mr Eazi, Olugbenga Agboola among other Nigerians featured on the Forbes ‘100 Innovations, Inventions & Icons From Africa’.
On the list were also Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization, Olugbenga Agboola, Genevieve Nnaji, and Swanky Jerry.
The list was compiled by Forbes and included everything from Hollywood exports and Grammy artists to award-winning innovations that could save the planet.
The list is also a way of “celebrating these very innovations, technologies, and influential role models that have spelled Africa’s development over the last decade,” according to the statement.
“This also includes the award-winning ideas that have shaped the African continent and prominent role models that have spelled Africa’s development over the last decade,” the magazine said on its official Twitter account, @Forbesafrica.
Ekeinde shared her appreciation to Forbes on her Twitter account @Realomosexy in response to her inclusion.

Okonjo-Iweala is a Nigerian-American economist and international development specialist who has been the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) since March, making her the first woman and African to hold the position.
Davido was described as “one of Africa’s biggest musicians” by the publication.
Omotola Jalade Ekeinde: According to Entrepreneurs, Omotola J Ekeinde is easily one of the most well-known actors to emerge from Africa, having appeared in over 200 films. Along with Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, and Kate Middleton, she was named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential women in the world in 2013.
Wizkid: Wizkid is another of Nigeria’s brightest and biggest stars, according to Vogue, who describes him as “an image-maker who talks to millennials.” The Grammy was shared by the multi-award-winning Afrobeats artist and Beyonce for their song Brown Skin Girl (from Beyonce’s visual album Black Is King).
Burna Boy: Regarded as one of Africa’s biggest and most influential artists, Burna Boy took home the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album on March 14th. Twice As Tall was described as “a masterclass in the vibe and hustle that have made Burna Boy an international musical power” in the Grammy nomination.
CNN names Funke Akindele-Bello “one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.” After starring in the famous United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)-sponsored sitcom I Need to Know, Funke Akindele-Bello rose to fame.
Mr Eazi: Nigerian-born singer Oluwatosin Ajibade, better known as ‘Mr Eazi,’ has made a name for himself as an award-winning African musician. In 2020, he was named to the prestigious FORBES AFRICA 30 Under 30 list, where he explored how a side hustle while in college in Ghana led to a best-selling music career and millions of fans.
Swanky Jerry, also known as Jeremiah Ogbodo, is a Nigerian celebrity fashion stylist who has styled celebrities such as Pearl Thusi, Davido, Nyanda, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, AKA, Sarkodie, as well as African leaders and first ladies. He was named to the FORBES AFRICA 30 Under 30 list in 2020.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: Known for her feminism, which she expresses not only in her books but also in her expression, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has used the power of narrative in all of her work. The Times Literary Supplement has called the author of Half of a Yellow Sun “the most popular” of a “procession of critically acclaimed young Anglophone authors [who] is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature,” especially in her adopted homeland of the United States (her first being Nigeria).
Genevieve Nnaji: Known as a trailblazer in the Nigerian film industry, Genevieve Nnaji’s directorial debut, Lionheart, is the first Netflix Original from the nation. It was the first Nigerian entry for the 2020 Academy Awards, but it was disqualified due to English dialogue.
