BREAKING: 24 Hours After Ikonso’s Death, IPOB Appoints New ESN Commander, Mocks Nigerian Army

Following the death of Commander Ikonso, the chief of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, yesterday, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, announced on Sunday that the group’s military wing has a new commander.

In a joint operation early Saturday, a tactical team of the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, and Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the ESN’s operational headquarters in Awomama, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, killing Ikonso and six other members of the party.

IPOB named a new commander less than 24 hours after Ikonso’s death, but refused to reveal his name. IPOB Secretary, Emma Strong, also denied ESN’s involvement in yesterday’s attack on Hope Uzodinma’s house when he appeared on Channels Tv’s Sunday Politics.

“The ESN were not the ones who broke into Uzodinma’s home. They can’t show up for an operation and claim to be ESN.

When asked to describe the group’s operations, he said, “We follow Fulani herdsmen from the area.”

“They are ghost security outfit,” Emma Powerful said when asked about the newly instituted security outfit by the South East Governors, ‘Ebubeagu.’ Ebubeagu is unlike any other group.”
