Two Of The Kidnapped Bethel Baptist Students Escape From Captors

The kidnapped kids of Bethel Baptist High School, Maraban Damishi, in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area have escaped, according to the Kaduna State Police Command.

ASP Mohammed Jalige, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said in a press statement that information regarding the students’ escape reached the Command on Wednesday.

On June 5, bandits broke into the school and kidnapped an undetermined number of pupils.

According to Jalige, the Command was notified by a good Samaritan on Wednesday around 3.30 a.m. that two students from the school had been sighted and were believed to have escaped from their captors.

According to him, a report was filed with Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Rijana, who apprehended the pupils, and an inquiry confirmed they were bandit victims.

”The students said that on Tuesday, July 20 , 2021, at about 6pm, they were tasked by their captors to go and fetch firewood from the nearby forest where they were held hostage.

”They, however, decided to take the opportunity of not being monitored and escape to the Rijana community along Kaduna – Abuja highway.

”The two boys are currently undergoing medical examination at Police Medical facility before re-uniting them with their family, while a tactical approach is being intensified to secure the release of the remaining students,”Jalige said.

In other news, a crowd killed two unidentified armed men in Kakuri, Kaduna metropolis, on Wednesday, according to the Command’s spokesperson.

He reaffirmed the Command’s plea for the people of the state to report suspicious characters to the relevant authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.
