Twitter Reacts To FG’s Plan To Lift Suspension
Following extensive negotiations, Twitter has stated that it expects Nigeria to lift the restriction on its services.
The Federal Government banned Twitter on June 5 after the microblogging service deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari’s (retd.) account, according to NEWS DIRECT.
After more than two months, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced that the social networking site would be allowed to operate soon.
“The ban on Twitter will soon be lifted as we are getting close to reaching full agreement. We have agreed on some areas, hopefully in the next few days or weeks we will conclude,” the minister said.
In response, Twitter, based in the United States, revealed that it had just met with the Nigerian government to discuss the ban and possible solutions.
“Our aim is to chart a path forward to the restoration of Twitter for everyone in Nigeria,” it said in a statement obtained via AFP.
