Tension As NLC Begins Protest In Abuja, Other States(PHOTOS/VIDEO)

Tension is high as the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) members kick off their nationwide protest in Auja and other states in Nigeria.

Despite stern warnings from the police and other security agencies against the protest, many of the NLC members initially gathered at their headquarters in Abuja where they mobilized before starting the protest while those in other states also gathered to strategise before beginning theirs.

The union members have repeatedly expressed serious concerns over the country’s high cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and general hardship with the government showing no seriousness in addressing those problems.

At the Labour House headquarters in Abuja, it was observed various union workers and concerned Nigerians arriving as early as 7:12 a.m., joining in the mobilization efforts.

The presence of Department of State Services operatives was also noted.

The NLC and the Trade Union Congress had previously issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government on February 8, citing the failure to implement agreements reached on October 2, following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

In response to the government’s alleged failure to meet its commitments within the ultimatum period, organized labor has scheduled a two-day nationwide protest for Tuesday, February 27, and Wednesday, February 28.

Last Monday, preparations for the protests began, with organized labor mobilizing its members across the country to raise awareness about the challenges faced due to the high cost of living.
