Supreme Court: Atiku Told To Retire From Politics, Back Peter Obi Kwankwaso Alliance To Defeat Tinubu

The apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to retire from politics and support the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, in forming an alliance with New Nigeria Peoples Party’s candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Ohanaeze emphasized that such realignment would enhance the opposition’s chances in the 2027 presidential election which can help it to defeat the incumbent President, Bola Tinubu.

The organization warned that the opposition would face significant challenges if President Tinubu declares his interest to run in 2027, highlighting the necessity for realignment. Ohanaeze acknowledged Peter Obi’s acceptance of the Supreme Court’s judgment against his appeal on the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) verdict, which declared President Tinubu as the rightful winner of the 2023 Presidential election. The organization praised Obi’s conduct, which prevented his supporters from being unjustly labeled as anarchists.

Looking ahead, Ohanaeze anticipated a daunting challenge for opposition parties in the 2027 elections if President Tinubu seeks re-election. To counter this, Ohanaeze encouraged Atiku Abubakar to retire from active politics and act as a statesman, supporting Peter Obi and Kwankwaso as the new faces of the opposition. Such a realignment, Ohanaeze believes, would significantly strengthen the opposition’s political prospects in 2027.
