Shaibu Defies Obaseki, Reveals What He Did Against The Gov, His Top Aides As He Resumes

Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has denied any involvement in the attack in Benin on Thursday that resulted in the death of police inspector Akor Onuh.

Shaibu clarified that he has resumed his duties as Deputy Governor and will be working from home.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Shaibu refuted the state government’s accusations that he orchestrated the attack near the Benin Airport. He expressed his surprise at the incident, emphasizing that he has avoided protests for the past year to prevent confrontations with the state government and its agents.

Shaibu also announced that he has filed a N5 billion lawsuit for defamation against the Governor, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie. He criticized Nehikhare and Osagie for not properly understanding the court judgment before making public statements.

“The judgment reinstating me is declarative and must be implemented before any appeal can proceed. The stay of judgment execution filed by the state is ineffective until the judgment is carried out,” Shaibu explained.

He added, “I returned peacefully from Abuja. Why were armed thugs waiting for me? I’ve taken legal action against those defaming me. I’ve resumed my duties, recalled my staff, and will work from home to avoid confrontation. I remain the deputy governor, and all my salary and entitlements will be paid.”
