President Tinubu Signs Fresh Bill Enabling Nigerian Students To Get Loans

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) a few minutes ago, kept his promise to Nigerian students by signing into law, the student loan bill, which provides for interest-free loans to indigent Nigerian students.

The new law makes provision for indigent Nigerian students in the nation’s educational institutions to access interest-free loans.

Recall the President, during his campaign in Akure, the Ondo State capital before the elections had pledged to sign into law, a credit loan facility for students if voted into power.

In November 2022, the legislation, which seeks to provide financial assistance to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions, was passed by the national assembly.

The bill was sponsored by Femi Gbajabiamila, immediate-past speaker of the House of Representatives

While making the announcement to reporters, the President’s media team led by Mr Dele Alake said the new law is a fulfilment of one of the electoral promises of President Tinubu.

Alake also said the new law will not encourage the inflation of school fees, adding that the two situations were unrelated.

Speaking further, he maintained that the idea behind the law is to help indigent students obtain education in the country.

The President’s former campaign media aide, Bayo Onanuga, also confirmed the development via a post on his Twitter profile

He said, “President Tinubu has kept his promise to Nigerian students by signing into law, the interest-free loan bill to aid indigent Nigerian students.”
