…What we couldn’t do for 20 yrs, gov did in 1yr – Bello, former Speaker
The monarchs in Ede Federal Constituency on Tuesday threw their weights behind the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for prioritising the welfare and wellbeing of their subjects.
This is even as the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ambassador Adejare Bello, revealed that what the three former number three citizens from the constituency could not do in 20 years, the governor has done in less than a year.
The Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin; Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Laminisa Lawal; and Alara of Ara kingdom, Oba Olubayo Adesola Windapo lauded the Oyetola’s government for the reconstruction of the long-abandoned roads and public facilities in their respective domains and across the State.
They spoke at two separate events on Tuesday when the Governor inaugurated 20km Ejigbo-Ara-Ojo-Ede road; 2.1km Ede township roads; and flagged off 3.8km Ejigbo township roads.

Speaking during the commissioning, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin, who described Oyetola’s infrastructural interventions as non-discriminatory, said,
“I have never seen a Governor like you. You have done well for us. You are indeed a lover of infrastructure development. You have fixed one of the roads giving us headache. This road had become a death trap before your intervention. During the raining season, some portions of the road looked like fish ponds.
“But thank God today, you have fixed it for us. You have honoured us. You have used the State resources to turn around the lives of our people. I know, if your eight years is not enough, we will ask God to increase it. I am very grateful. As you honoured us with this road, God will honour you”, the monarch added.
Also, Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, thanked Oyetola for all he has been doing in the State and especially for strengthening the fortune of the town.
Timi said: “The entirety of Ede has sent me to thank you for this great favour that we have received from you. We wish you peace in your government, strength and good health to govern us on in continuum because we desire to see more good works.
“Once a government is performing and spreading the dividends of democracy, there is no point to contemplate changing such a government”, he stated.
The monarchs also applauded the State government for taking the dividends of democracy to all and sundry, particularly the rural dwellers whose standard of lives had been geometrically improved, saying the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the roads would go a long way to impact positively on individuals, and the collective and socioeconomic lives of his subjects.
In his remarks, the Governor of the State of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola said the administration was committed to infrastructure development as part of efforts to give the State a facelift in development and to attract both local and international investors.
He said his administration’s infrastructure development was aimed at opening up hinterlands for development and connecting both urban and rural roads to aid business opportunities, adding that the Development Agenda of his administration was on course in spite of limited resources.
“The reconstruction of these roads is in pursuit of our resolve to embark on quality and equitable infrastructure development for the transformation of our economy and the delivery of prosperity to the people of the State. The two-in-one event commissioning and flag-off- is therefore symbolic as it further affirms our administration’s avowed commitment to keeping our promises. We shall continue to fulfill our commitment to giving you access to services and projects in all the sectors as we progress.
“Our administration has embarked on massive construction of intra-city; inter-city and rural roads across the state to deliver socioeconomic development to enable our people to embark on business and improve on extant ones, and facilitate easy movement of our farmers and their goods.
“It is our avowed resolve to deliver more than double our achievements in our first two years as our economic transformation and revolution plans begin to yield dividends. We are resolved to make Osun financially independent and to set it on the path of sustainable development even as we put measures in place to offer opportunities and empowerment to our people, including our youths to be owners of businesses and creators of jobs”, Oyetola emphasised.
A former speaker of the State’s House of Assembly, Adejare Bello, expressed gratitude to Oyetola for saving him and his colleagues from the constituency from the embarrassment resulting from their inability to facilitate the reconstruction of the road.
He said, “With this development, Governor Oyetola has removed the tag of bastards on the political leaders from this Federal Constituency. As we all know, Professor Mojeed Alabi from Ejigbo spent four years as Speaker; Najeem Salaam also from Ejigbo spent eight years as Speaker; I am from Ede and I spent eight years as Speaker. What we could not facilitate in our 20 years of cumulative service as Speakers, Governor Oyetola has done it for us within two years of his administration”, Bello stated.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Remi Omowaye, said the reconstruction of the roads was in furtherance of the Oyetola’s commitment to raising the bar of infrastructure and place the State on the path of sustainable development and socioeconomic rejuvenation.
He lauded the Governor for the express approval given to embark on roads infrastructure across the nooks and crannies of the State.
