Ohanaeze Urges IPOB Followers To Shun Protests
The pan Igbo socio-cultural organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo has warned against the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
If officials do not take severe measures to resolve the problem, another round of violence might engulf the southeast, according to the leading Igbo socio-cultural group.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo tasked the southeast governors to explore harmonious relationships with President Muhammadu Buhari to secure a soft landing for Kanu and the sustainability of the peaceful atmosphere that returned to the region, according to a statement sent to DAILY POST on Thursday by its President General, Engr Chidi Ibe.
The group implored the leaders to look beyond the immediate crisis, forgive Kanu for his misdeeds, and obtain Kanu’s release from the Federal Government’s grasp.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo also stated that the deteriorating situation in the region and Nigeria as a whole does not require blame games to be overcome, but rather unity and cooperation.
According to the apex Igbo body, “They must forgive and close ranks, this is not the time for blame, accusations and counter-accusations.

“The previous Nnamdi Kanu’s rantings and insults heaped on South East Governors and Igbo Elders were unbearable but the best way to forgive him is to secure his release.
“As for Ohanaeze Ndigbo, we will continue to talk to his teeming supporters to shun any protest and give the South East Governors and other Igbo leaders the opportunity to negotiate his release with President Buhari”.
Similarly, Catholic Bishops of the Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province have accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration of selective justice.
The Bishops expressed their disappointment that the development has had a negative impact on Nigerians in all aspects of life as well as the country’s international image.
