Obasanjo Travels To Benin Republic, Meets President Over Sunday Igboho’s Trial
In the first week of August, former President Olusegun Obasanjo traveled to Benin Republic in an attempt to mediate in the ongoing prosecution of Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Igboho.
Top diplomatic sources told TheCable that the former president flew to Zanzibar, a Tanzanian island, on August 1 and then redirected to the Francophone country.
He was claimed to have gone to Benin Republic to express his condolences to Nicephore Soglo, who had lately lost his wife, Roseline Soglo. Roseline died in Cotonou on July 25th at the age of 87.
From 1991 to 1996, Soglo served as President of the Benin Republic.
“Former President Obasanjo travelled to Zanzibar on August 1. Perhaps to conceal his trip; he rerouted to Benin Republic,” one of the sources said.
“He was to condole with former President Soglo who recently lost his wife.”
