Niger Delta Group Slams Nigerian Senate President Lawan, Deputy Omo-Agege Over Delay In Confirming NDDC Board Members’ List

A group known as Niger Delta Development and Peace Initiative (NDDPI) has lambasted the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and his Deputy, Ovie Omo-Agege over the delay of the Senate to confirm the nominees forwarded by President Muhammadu Buhari as members of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The group accused Omo-Agege of discouraging Lawan from confirming the nominees for his selfish interest, noting that such action works against the development of the Niger Delta.

In a statement signed by Victor Ordu on Wednesday, the group urged the Senate President “not to allow himself to be used by selfish politicians to achieve political scores in the Niger Delta”.

“We have an intelligence report that Omo-Agege is the one working against the confirmation of the nominees forwarded to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari. This is the first time it is taking the Senate so long to confirm nominees from President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Senator Ahmad Lawan should not allow himself to be used by selfish politicians to settle political scores in the Niger Delta. Confirming the nominees will help stabilise the peace in the Niger Delta. We are appealing to the Senate President to urgently consider the confirmation of those names as forwarded by President Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement said.
