N8 Million Bribe: Court Will Decide Abba Kyari’s Extradition – Malami

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation, has spoken out about the possibility of former police commander Abba Kyari being extradited to face charges in the wire fraud and money laundering scam organized by Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas.

Mr. Malami made his remarks in a VOA interview on Thursday.

Mr Malami stated that in Mr Kyari’s extradition procedure, due process would be followed and that the decision to extradite Mr Kyari would be made by the courts.

“Yes, we have bilateral agreement between Nigeria and USA on extraditing anyone who commit any offence in any of the countries, be it Nigeria or United states but there are guidelines and the guidelines are when the country writes a letter to the foreign affairs ministry, and the foreign affairs will send to the minister of justice…so the court will give permission for extradition of any one to go and answer some questions in United states based on the allegations,” Mr Malami told VOA.

Noting that Nigeria and the U.S. can write each other, if their citizen commits a crime in either country, for extradition, Mr Malami said, “I am not saying Abba Kyari will be extradited but the law will be followed judiciously before taking any action.”

Following an order by Otis Wright of the United States District Court for the Central District of California for the FBI to track down Mr Kyari and produce him in the United States for his role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Hushpuppi, a notorious Nigerian fraudster, a warrant of arrest has been issued for him.

Mr Kyari and Hushpuppi had a contact established by American intelligence services, which noted Mr Kyari’s involvement in a scam that duped a Qatari businessman of $1.1 million.

To prevent Hushpuppi’s accomplice from interfering with the scheme, Mr Kyari apprehended and imprisoned him for five weeks.
