‘My dad is Nigerian’ – Arsenal forward confirms eligibility to play for Super Eagles

Arsenal forward, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has confirmed his eligibility to play for the Super Eagles.

Oyedeji is a product of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy and is also eligible to play for the Three Lions of England.

He was born and raised in England to a Nigerian father and a Saint Vincent mother.

Oyedeji joined Arsenal at the age of eight and signed a professional contract in the summer of 2021.

He has spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham in search of first-team football.

“My family background is that my dad’s Nigerian and my mother is from St Vincent. The Butler is from my mum’s side and Oyedeji is from my dad’s side,” he told the Arsenal Matchday programme.

“My dad always encouraged me to watch clips of Thierry Henry to understand the art of playing in attack but I also watched the likes of Ronaldinho too, just mesmerized by their ability.”
