Minister Dumps Tinubu’s Cabinet, Heads To Take Another Top Post

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong, has reportedly submitted his resignation from the Federal Executive Council.

According to reports, Lalong has by his said resignation signaled his intention to take up his Senate seat. According to sources, Lalong awaits President Bola Tinubu’s decision before officially transitioning to the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja had recently upheld the tribunal’s judgment, leading to the removal of elected members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State. Consequently, Lalong was declared the winner of the Plateau South Senatorial election held on February 25, 2023, and was issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

A source close to the Minister, also the former Governor of Plateau State and Director-General of the Tinubu Presidential Council, revealed, “The Minister will join the Senate. He will go there to ensure that President Bola Tinubu succeeds. The Senate is where the elders are, and he wants to join them.”

The source further mentioned the imminent appointment of a new, younger individual as the Minister representing Plateau State to succeed Lalong, highlighting the minister’s dedication to contributing to the success of the government under President Tinubu.
