Lagos Govt Issues Ultimatum To Motorists, Bus Drivers

The Lagos government has issued a 7-day ‘Vacation Order’ to motorists and commercial bus drivers operating on bridges across the state.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, stated that the ultimatum was given to address infractions causing traffic congestion on these bridges. Despite previous warnings, drivers have persistently defied government orders, leading to obstructions that affect both the bridges’ integrity and traffic flow.

Giwa emphasized the administration’s efforts in constructing standard bus terminals and garages throughout the state, urging compliance with the order to ensure smooth traffic and preserve the bridges’ integrity.

According to Giwa, “Every motorist/commercial bus driver operating along ‘Apongbon’ and ‘Idumota’ (Cater) Bridges, ‘Elegbata:, ‘Ebute-Ero’ and ‘Ejalonibu’ must as a matter of urgency vacate these areas as LASTMA would commence strict enforcement operation immediately after the expiration of this ultimatum until zero tolerance is achieved across the state.”

He added that the activities of these motorists/commercial bus drivers on bridges are contrary to the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 provisions as amended.

The Special Adviser, maintained that after the expiration of the ultimatum, any vehicles that defaults would be charged immediately to the Lagos State Mobile Court for prosecution.

He also noted that the ultimatum takes immediate effect from today being Monday, 16th of October, 2023.
