JUST IN: Wike’s Camp Thrown Into Jubilation As Court Rules Against Fubara’s Camp
The political camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja celebrated on Thursday following the Appeal Court’s decision to reinstate Martins Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers as Speaker and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Supporters of the Minister were seen jubilantly celebrating, playing drums, and singing spontaneous songs of praise for the Minister.
Some of the elected chairmen contesting tenure elongation were particularly pleased with the judgment, believing it had given them a new lease on life. Dr. Chidi Lloyd and Chief Samuel Nwanosike, the ousted chairmen of Emohua and Ikwerre local government areas, respectively, stated that the judgment invalidated all decisions and approvals made by Governor Siminialayi Fubara based on actions by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led lawmakers.
Lloyd praised the judiciary for upholding the constitution and deepening democracy with its ruling. He criticized the lower court judge, whose order had initially stripped Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers of their statuses, arguing that it could have led to anarchy and bloodshed in the state. Lloyd emphasized that the laws are clear and must be respected by everyone, regardless of their position.
Lloyd noted that the judgment has significant implications for the tenure elongation dispute, which remains subject to litigation in other suits. He and his colleagues would not rush to return to their offices until the court of appeal ruled on the specific matter. He acknowledged that the judgment affirms Martins Amaewhule as the Speaker and validates all actions taken by him and his colleagues, including amendments to the 2018 law.
Regarding the police’s continued occupation of the local government secretariats, Lloyd explained that their presence is to ensure safety during disputes. He stressed that any actions taken by Oko-Jumbo, including the screening of caretaker committee members, are now null and void. He called for those individuals to cease parading as local government chairmen.

Nwanosike urged the Governor and his supporters to obey the judgment, warning of serious consequences for disobedience. He emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional democracy and respecting the laws. Nwanosike assured that the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly is legitimate and that their laws must be followed by all, including the Governor of Rivers State.
The state government has yet to officially react, though supporters of the Governor claim the judgment simply instructs the parties to return to the Federal High Court.
