The Supreme Court in Abuja is scheduled to hear and possibly deliver judgment on Monday regarding the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole.
The appeal is against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
One of Tonye-Cole’s key arguments is that Fubara did not resign as the Accountant General of the state within the constitutionally stipulated deadline and the Electoral Act. Consequently, Tonye-Cole asserts that Fubara was not qualified to participate in the election, let alone be declared the winner by INEC.
These contentions, among other pleas from the APC candidate, will be considered by the apex court later today. The conclusion of all electoral legal matters is anticipated by tomorrow, the 16th of January, 2024.
