JUST IN: Strike: FG, ASUU Reach Agreement

On Wednesday, the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) concluded their closed-door meeting with a commitment to amicably resolve all contentious issues.

Both parties also agreed to initiate a communication process to prevent the union’s planned industrial actions.

The meeting commenced around 4:30 p.m. at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja and lasted over two hours. Present were the two ministers overseeing education, Prof. Tahir Mamman and Dr. Yusuf Sununu, along with other top ministry officials representing the federal government.

ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who led the union’s team, informed the press after the meeting that negotiations had begun, expressing hope that the federal government would follow through on their agreements. Regarding the two-week ultimatum issued by the union, Osodeke stated that they would brief their members on the meeting’s details.
