JUST IN: Presidency Finally Unveils New Costly Presidential Jet Amid Outrage (PHOTOS)

The Presidency has unveiled a new Airbus A330 purchased under President Bola Tinubu, replacing the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) acquired during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, shared the news on Monday, revealing the aircraft’s images. Although the purchase price was not disclosed, Onanuga noted that the Airbus A330 was bought well below market value, saving Nigeria millions of dollars in annual maintenance and fuel costs.

“The recommendation to replace the B737-700(BBJ) followed an investigative hearing by Nigeria’s parliament that questioned the plane’s safety record and cost efficiency, especially after it malfunctioned during a trip to Saudi Arabia,” Onanuga explained.

He added that the Senate’s security and intelligence committee advised replacing the ageing aircraft to reduce downtime and operational expenses.

A top government official previously informed Daily Trust that the aircraft might have been purchased under the Service Wide Vote, potentially bypassing the need for parliamentary approval.
