JUST IN: Nigerians Protest In Israel Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention
Hundreds of Nigerians from the South-East and South-West marched in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Tuesday morning to demand that the Nigerian government free Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Protesters marched from the Phillipino Garden to the British Embassy on Hayakon Street in Tel Aviv, chanting “Free Nnamdi Kanu.”
The demonstrators sported Biafran flags and marched down the street while singing solidarity songs, according to a Facebook live video spotted by SaharaReporters.
Since Kanu’s arrest on June 18, there have been protests both inside and outside Nigeria.
Nigerians living in London, United Kingdom, also protested, according to SaharaReporters on July 1.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, some of the demonstrators carried the Biafran flag while chanting, “Free Nnamdi Kanu now,” “Free Nnamdi Kanu now.”

Kanu is a British and Nigerian citizen who is thought to have been staying in the United Kingdom.
Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, had first announced Kanu’s detention, detailing his offenses and emphasizing that he must complete his court proceedings in earnest.
Kanu was blindfolded and snuck into the courtroom by Department of State Services (DSS) personnel in handcuffs, with his legs also tied, according to SaharaReporters.
He was rushed to Court 2, where the sitting judge instructed the prosecutor, Shuaib Labaran, to notify the defense counsel of the new date for the trial’s continuation.
Journalists were not allowed to record Kanu because he was protected and led out the back door.
Kanu had jumped bail, and the prosecution requested that he be remanded in DSS custody. The application was allowed by the court.
The case has been postponed to July 26, 2021, by Justice Muritala Nyako.
