The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that the Ondo governorship shadow election scheduled for April 20 will be conducted through a direct primary.
In a letter jointly signed by the National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Basiru, the party informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of this decision ahead of the primary.
Confirming the mode of election, Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, stated to The Nation correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday night: “We are using the direct primary mode of election for Ondo State governorship primary election.”
Duru further explained, “This decision has equally been conveyed in a letter duly signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the party has adopted direct mode of election for Ondo State governorship election.”
Some of the top contenders in the race to pick the APC ticket are Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa who is seeking reelection, a former governorship aspirant in the state, Olusola Oke, former Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinteriwna, the Senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim among others.
