IPOB, ESN Behind Killing, Destruction In Southeast — Army
The Nigerian Army has linked the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Eastern Security Network, ESN, to the deaths and insecurity in the southeast.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, accused IPOB and ESN of killing innocent people and damaging the property of those suspected of being against them.
He pointed out that IPOB was responsible for the burning in the Southeast before accusing soldiers of the same.
This was revealed by Nwachukwu while speaking to press in Abuja on Monday about the ongoing Army drills in Nigeria.
Members of IPOB and ESN operatives recently destroyed people’s properties in Izombe Community, Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State, according to an Army spokesman.
He said Chukwunonso Iherue, a convict who was among those that escaped from the Owerri Correctional Centre on April 5, was responsible for the crime.

Iherue evaded arrest with the help of certain others, according to Nwachukwu, but was eventually neutralized when he shot at troops.
“Unfortunately, suspected IPOB members ran amok, setting ablaze houses and other property belonging to those perceived to be against them.
“A reinforcement team was deployed to Izombe and the security situation was immediately stabilised, while peace has since returned to the community.
“It was, however, observed on arrival at the community that the criminal gang also burnt own troops van in addition to other public and private property,” he said.
