Indication Shows That Wike, Fubara’s Fight Rages Despite Tinubu’s Intervention
Indication has emerged showing that the political clash between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor lingers on despite the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu had intervened with a a view to resolving the political crisis between the two top politicians in Rivers State which has polarised the oil-rich state. However, indications suggest that the fight was yet to stop as the face off lingers especially through the foot soldiers and allies of the two leaders.
According to an article by Tribune, last week, both factions of the Rivers State House of Assembly convened separate plenary sessions at different locations, marking another episode in the ongoing rift. The factional Speaker, Edison Ehie who is loyal to Fubara, had previously raised concerns about an alleged assassination attempt on him, attributing blame to the opposing faction. He asserted that the motive behind the attack was his unwavering support for Governor Fubara.
On the other hand, the pro-Wike legislators were recently photographed with the Minister during an unannounced retreat in Abuja, sparking speculation about the true purpose of the gathering. Despite the lack of information on the retreat’s agenda, the photos of the event circulated, fueling discussions on its actual motive.
On their part, the pro-Fubara lawmakers secured a court order from the Port Harcourt High Court, instructing both assembly factions to maintain the status quo and suspend further deliberations until the pending matter is resolved. The order was issued by Justice Phoebe Ayuba of the Federal High Court Port Harcourt in response to a suit filed by Honourable Edison Ehie seeking to prevent Honourable Martins Amaewhule, (Wike’s loyalists) and other lawmakers from presiding over legislative activities in the state government.
The suit, with the notice filed by Ehie as the new Speaker, listed the Rivers State House of Assembly and Ehie himself as plaintiffs, while the defendants included the factional Speaker, Honourable Martins Chike Amaewhule, Honourable Dumle Maol (former Deputy Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly), the Inspector-General of Police, Director of the Department of State Security Services in Rivers State, and the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State.

Recall also that Wike had during an interview said things about Fubara’s actions that were not right. He blamed the Governor’s handling of political issues, his lack of respect for the party structures and agreements. He also claimed that he was not really working against Fubara as insinuated pointing out how he shared some secrets that would help the Governor succeed during his discussion with him.
