IGP Finally Meets With Leaders of Planned Protest; Check Out What He Told Them

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun held a virtual meeting on Tuesday with key members of the Take It Back Movement, including prominent lawyers Femi Falana (SAN) and Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN).

According to Vanguard Newspaper, the meeting aimed to discuss the group’s planned nationwide protest and to ensure the safety of citizens while upholding their constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized the importance of maintaining public order and safety during the protests. He acknowledged the group’s right to peaceful demonstration and highlighted the Police Force’s role in facilitating these rights within legal boundaries.

The IGP advised the Take It Back Movement to work with the State Police Commissioners to plan and coordinate the protests, ensuring the safety of both participants and the general public. He recommended against unplanned open processions due to potential security risks.

The statement further noted that organizing and coordinating with police and other security agencies is crucial to mitigate risks and protect the rights and well-being of all involved.

The IGP reiterated the Force’s commitment to safeguarding citizens’ rights and ensuring that public gatherings are held safely and securely. He urged all stakeholders to Collaborate.
