Hardship: BBNaija Crashes Grand Prize For Show Winner

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced that the winner of the 2024 edition of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija 9) will receive a grand prize of N100 million.

Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, revealed this at a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday.

Tejumola stated that Season 9 will premiere on Sunday, July 28, at 7pm WAT, and will be broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels. This year’s grand prize is N20 million less than the N120 million awarded in the 2023 edition.

“After 71 days of game playing, on the 6th of October, 2024, a grand total of N100 million worth of cash and a brand new SUV will be won,” she said.

In the previous season, Kogi State-born Ilebaye Odiniya won the N120 million grand prize in the ‘All-Stars’ edition.

“With new twists and unknown housemates ready to become your new faves, this season promises to be one for the books,” the organisers announced. “Expect shocking twists, explosive drama, and alliances that will keep you guessing,” Tejumola added.

Auditions for the ninth season of BBNaija began on March 27 and concluded on May 4. The organisers have promised a season filled with “double drama, relationships, and huge competition,” with participants competing in pairs.

While the grand prize was expected to be higher than N120 as has been the tradition, the crash in the amount by N20 million was not explained by the organisers, however, it came at a time when Nigerians are going through hardship.
