Gunmen, Nigerian Army Exchange Fire In Imo Over Sit-At-Home Order

At Mgbidi and Akata in the Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigerian Army soldiers and some militants are engaged in a fierce shootout.

According to The Sun, the gunfight began at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, when gunmen enforcing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s partial lockdown order barricaded the roads and ordered people to return to their homes.

However, according to the source, they were later met by the military, who retaliated quickly to their command.

It is unclear whether there were any casualties on both sides at the time of this report.

IPOB encouraged Nigerians in the South-East to pray diligently for peace in the region, unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, and the restoration of the Biafra nation yesterday.

Although a statement from the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, did not order a sit-in, it did encourage people to close their shops for the duration of the prayers and reopen shortly afterward.
