Governor Raises Alarm After Armed Bandits Took Over Schools In His State

Armed bandits have continued their nefarious activities and attacks in some communities in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Governor Umar Dikko Radda of Katsina State raised an alarm about the escalating threat of bandit activities, particularly their takeover of some schools in the state. The Governor expressed his concerns during the 7th and 8th combined convocation ceremony of the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina State.

Governor Radda, alarmed by the impact of banditry on education, highlighted the establishment of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps as a proactive measure to combat insecurity and safeguard a conducive learning environment for students in the state.

Despite the challenges posed by bandits, Governor Radda affirmed his commitment to decisively tackle these terrorists, emphasizing that his administration would not relent in its efforts. In his own words, “There is no education without security. Many of our frontline local government areas have had their schools closed due to banditry, and in some cases, schools have become dens for bandits.”

Governor Radda further outlined the priorities of his administration, stating, “My administration has made out-of-school children a main priority, and we will continue to work with all partners to reduce the numbers. We will also work with religious schools to provide academic tools for students in a bid to prepare them for the world ahead.”

This declaration underscores the governor’s commitment to addressing the security and educational challenges posed by banditry in Katsina State.
