Girls Empowerment in Technology: A Legend Golden Care Foundation project aimed at making the girl-child live up to her best potentials
Girls Empowerment in Technology is a project under the Education and Livelihood thematic area of Legend Golden Care Foundation. It is the first of its kind to empower young girls from secondary schools with technological skills and guided internships.
The ‘Girls Empowerment in Technology (GETECH)’ initiative is a groundbreaking programme aimed at preparing secondary school girls for immediate employability upon completion of their secondary education.
GETECH is not only equipping participants with vital tech skills but also cultivating their leadership capabilities. In a world where the tech industry’s influence spans across sectors, GETECH serves as a crucial avenue for young women to bridge the gender gap and contribute actively to this burgeoning field. By fostering tangible skills and empowering mindsets, GETECH is on a mission to re-shape the narrative of gender equality and technological prowess in Nigeria.
Amongst the many achievements of this project includes a successful six-month training programme in Desktop Publishing and Web Development for 78 students from the Government Secondary School Mpape, Abuja, Nigeria.
The GETECH project has successfully achieved a significant milestone with the completion of the 1-month pre-internship phase, where young girls gained hands-on experience and practical insights on desktop publishing, Microsoft office and web design, further bolstering their skill sets.
The Executive Director, Mrs. Kanayo Olisa-Metuh, who was pleased with the level of learning and skills acquired by the girls was full of joy. She appreciated the GETECH girls for their co-operation and urged them not to relent in their pursuit of success.
