Fubara Replaces Sergeant Awuse As Rivers Traditional Council Chairman

The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has made a significant decision to replace the Chairman of the State Supreme Council of Traditional Ruler’s Council, High Royal Majesty, Eze Sergeant Awuse.

Fubara has appointed Eze Ohna Apara, His Royal Majesty, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, to take over the position as the new Chairman of the council.

The announcement was made by the governor during a Special Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday.

This change in leadership is believed to be linked to the political tensions between the governor and his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike.

It is worth noting that Wike, a few days before leaving office, had replaced the then Chairman of the Council, His Royal Majesty, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, the Amanyanabo of Opobo, with Chief Sergeant Awuse.

Subsequently, in response to the political crisis, the State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule enacted a law preventing the State Governor from interfering with the traditional council’s leadership.

Addressing the attendees, Fubara explained that Awuse has been absent from the council’s activities for some time due to his alleged involvement in the state’s crisis, necessitating the need to fill the vacant position.

Describing Awuse as unreliable, Fubara remarked that he has displayed inconsistent behavior since the commencement of the political unrest in the state.

Fubara stated, “It seems like your chairman has vanished. Perhaps when he is ready, he will contact me. If he receives the approval, he can then attend the meeting. However, you are already aware of his stance. He lacks stability and credibility. He is unable to maintain a consistent position. Due to this, he has chosen to stay out of sight. Please bear with him until we can overcome the challenges we are facing. With the help of God, we hope to resolve this issue soon.”
