From Impeachment To Becoming Governor: Aiyedatiwa Mounts Ondo Seat Of Power

Lucky Aiyedatiwa has finally shoved off the shackles that tried to shoot him to political oblivion in Ondo State and has mounted the seat of power.

Aiyedatiwa narrowly escaped being impeached by the Ondo State House of Assembly led by Speaker Olamide Oladiji over alleged offences. After months of horse-trading and political impasse amid court tussles, he officially assumed office in Akure, Ondo State taking the seat of his ailing Boss, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, although, in an acting capacity.

Greeted by former Secretary to the State Government Ifedayo Abegunde and supporters, Aiyedatiwa’s appointment as Acting Governor was confirmed by the state House of Assembly. Governor Akeredolu had notified the assembly of his medical leave, invoking Section 190 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

In accordance with the constitutional provision, Speaker Oladiji affirmed Aiyedatiwa’s Acting Governor status, clarifying that it would persist until a written declaration indicated otherwise. Akeredolu specified that the medical leave would commence on the same day.

The announcement was met with celebration on social media by supporters of Aiyedatiwa.
