FG Reacts As US Removes Nigeria From Religious Freedom Blacklist

Nigeria has been removed from the United States’ list of countries with religious freedom concerns, according to the Federal Government.

Recall that the US removed Nigeria from its list of religious violators on Wednesday.

Russia, China, and eight other countries were also designated as “countries of particular concern” for committing or tolerating “systematic, ongoing, and severe breaches of religious freedom.”

In a statement released on Thursday, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, said the judgment was fair and just.

He also stated that Nigeria does not violate religious freedom or have a policy of religious persecution, as he had previously stated.

Nigeria, he said, carefully guards religious freedom, which is established in the country’s constitution, and takes any violations seriously.

“We will continue to ensure that every Nigerian has the freedom to practice the religion or belief of his or her choice without impediment,” he stated.

The Minister also praised religious leaders across the country for their efforts to promote religious unity.
