Edo Election: Stop Attacking Personality, Discuss Issues – Group Urges APC Candidate
The Edo Democracy Movement (EDM) has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the forthcoming Edo State election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to focus on discussing issues rather than engaging in personal attacks against his rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement released today by Omoregbe Osayiuwa, convener of the group, the EDM expressed concern over the increasing trend of personal attacks in the political discourse surrounding the Edo governorship election.
The group stated that such tactics detract from the critical issues that should be the focus of the electoral campaign.
“Edo State deserves a campaign that is centred on substantive issues and concrete plans for the future. It is disheartening to see a shift from policy debates to personal attacks.
“This approach not only undermines the integrity of the electoral process but also prevents voters from making informed decisions based on the candidates’ policies and capabilities,” the group lamented.

The EDM also said: “We call on the APC candidate to rise above the politics of personality and concentrate on presenting a clear, actionable agenda for the development of Edo State.
“The electorate is keen on understanding how each candidate plans to address pressing issues such as infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and economic growth.
“Personal attacks only serve to cloud these important discussions and distract from the real concerns of the people.”
The EDM further asserted that constructive dialogue is essential for a healthy democratic process.
“Political campaigns should be a platform for exchanging ideas and proposing solutions, not for defaming opponents.
“We urge the APC candidate to engage in meaningful debate and provide voters with a vision that addresses the challenges facing Edo State,” the movement noted.
The EDM reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a fair and issue-based campaign and encouraged all political candidates to prioritize the welfare of Edo State’s citizens above partisan interests.
The group called on all stakeholders to support a campaign environment that fosters transparency, respect, and constructive engagement, ensuring that the forthcoming election is a reflection of the people’s true needs and aspirations
