Deputy Speaker Comes Under Attack After Revealing That APC Plans To Sack Abia Governor

Obi Aguocha, the Labour Party representative for Umuahia/Ikwuano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has strongly knocked Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu over his recent claim that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take over Abia State in 2027.

Aguocha challenged Kalu to openly declare his governorship ambitions instead of making indirect statements.

Aguocha expressed his dismay, stating that Kalu’s remarks were disrespectful to the current Governor and denigrated the office. He also emphasized that Kalu lacks the authority to declare the governor’s seat vacant in 2027.

In a statement released on Monday, Aguocha said, “My first reaction was one of shock—I thought the video might be an AI-generated skit. But it was real. My dear colleague, your remarks against our Governor, the Labour Party, and Abia State were condescending, denigrating, and disrespectful in every sense of the word.”

Aguocha continued, “While we elected you as Deputy Speaker, that does not give you the audacity to declare the governorship of Abia State vacant in 2027. I have known you to exude boldness, often mistaken for arrogance, but not this kind of reckless instability.”

He further urged Kalu to focus on his legislative duties and use his position to reduce marginalization, promote inclusiveness, and address the needs of their constituents, Abia State, and the Southeast region at large.

Aguocha also addressed rumors of Kalu’s governorship ambitions, saying, “If your ambition is to become the governor of Abia State by 2027, that is your right, but make it plain rather than hiding behind discontent and insincerity. I assure you that just as you expect Abians to repay Tinubu for his good works, they will repay Alex Otti for his significant achievements in 2027.”

He concluded by reminding Kalu of the overwhelming support Dr. Alex Otti received in the last election, where the Labour Party secured a landslide victory. Aguocha emphasized that transforming Abia State under Labour Party leadership requires more than “mere grandstanding” and that there is no vacancy in Abia State’s governorship in 2027.
