Clash With Emir Sanusi: Drama In Kano As Police Counters Dethroned Emir Bayero

The Kano State Police Command has prohibited Durbar activities in the state countering an earlier message by the embattled Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero who has been engaged in a serious tussle with Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, over who is the rightful Emir of Kano.

This police ban on Durbar activities was disclosed in a statement by Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer.

The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, had invited district heads for Durbar and requested police security. However, the police stated that such activities would not be permitted for security reasons.

The statement read: “The Kano State Police Command congratulates Muslim faithful and all law-abiding residents of the state on witnessing another Eid-El-Kabir Sallah period and assures that adequate security measures have been implemented to maintain peace and order throughout the state before, during, and after the festive period.”

“As part of our commitment to peace, in conjunction with relevant security stakeholders, a ban has been placed on all Durbar activities across the state for the upcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebrations. This decision follows numerous security reports and extensive consultations to ensure the safety of the community.”

“Worshippers are advised to perform their Eid prayers at the designated praying grounds, as traditionally done in the past.”

The Command also emphasized the importance of cooperation from all stakeholders to create a safer environment and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
