Building Collapse: Minister Tells Engineers To Ensure Application Of Standards In Operations
Mr Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, has urged engineers in the construction industry to be proactive and maintain standard procedures in the performance of their jobs.
Mrs. Odutayo Oluseyi, Assistant Director, Ministry of Power, stated this in an Abuja statement on Monday.
During a visit to his office by Mr Gidari-Wudil, the Deputy President/President-elect of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the minister talked against the backdrop of a recent building collapse in the country.
While thanking the NSE President-elect, Aliyu reminded him of the huge responsibility that has been placed upon him as President.
He stated that the government is investing heavily in infrastructure, and that engineers are key stakeholders.
“The massive investment in infrastructure by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is commendable,” he remarked.

He asked the new President to follow right procedures and specifications to ensure professionalism.
The minister asked Wudil to work along with the government to prevent such disasters caused by infrastructural flaws.
The President-elect of the Nigerian Society of Engineers responded by assuring the minister that under his leadership, the Nigerian Society of Engineers would be proactive and active.
Due to the strategic nature of the Engineering profession, he added, the society would work closely with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and other organisations to guarantee the application of professionalism.
Earlier, Mr Olu Ogunduyile, chairman of the NSE’s investiture committee, said the visit was to formally tell the minister of the President-Elect Gidari-investiture, Wudil’s which is set for January 22, 2022.
He stated that the Gidari-Wudil government would concentrate on the Academia-Industrial Relationship, which is aimed at collaboration between academia and industry players.
