Buhari Swears In Justice Ariwoola As New Chief Justice Of Nigeria
As the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ariwoola Olukayode took the legal oath of office on Wednesday.
Before the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting began, President Muhammadu Buhari performed a quick swearing ceremony in the Council Chambers in Abuja.
Vice President of Nigeria Yemi Osinbajo, ministers, other Supreme Court judges, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu were among those in attendance for the swearing-in of the substantive CJN.
Recall that Justice Ariwoola took over as acting CJN when Justice Tanko Muhammad, the previous CJN, resigned due to health reasons.
Justice Ariwoola was later confirmed by the National Assembly, and his swearing-in as the new CJN comes a day after President Buhari conferred on him and the resigned Justice Mohammed the second highest national honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after his swearing in ceremony, Justice Ariwoola who was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court on November 22, 2011 by the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, called on politicians in Nigeria to allow the judiciary to function optimally.

Justice Ariwoola promised that as the 2023 general elections draw closer, he would ensure that the country’s apex court, the Supreme Court, is well reformed for maximum discharge of justice.
