At the present All Progressives Congress special convention in Abuja, where the party’s presidential candidate for 2023 is being chosen, voting has officially ended. The voting by the 2,322 delegates ended about 7.30 a.m., according to SaharaReporters.
President Muhammadu Buhari left Eagle Square, the convention’s venue, around 1.20 a.m. on Wednesday, just before voting began.
Before leaving, Buhari urged party members to stay united and avoid squabbles.
Since national chairman Abdullahi Adamu sought to force a consensus candidate on the party, the ruling party has been in disarray.
Meanwhile, 11 northern APC governors stayed firm and proclaimed that the president will be zoned to the south.
The three-day special national convention of the party kicked out on June 6 and will conclude today with the choosing of a presidential flag bearer.
